FAVORITE HAMBURGER JOINTS!

Mouthwatering Montreal Montreal restaurants

FAVORITES:  HAMBURGERS (YOU WILL NOT FIND FAST FOOD CHAINS ON THIS LIST, LEMME TELL YA)

I have this friend who, by all appearances, cares a little too much about his appearance at times. His hair's pretty obviously very coiffed (with nary a single hair out of place or yielding to the blowing wind), he takes care to always dress in clothes that highlight his trim physique, and he maintains a pretty careful diet. I mean, seriously, at one point the boy knew the calorie count of orange juice, ferchrissake. Yeesh.

That said, he does have at least one weekly indulgence - hamburgers and french fries. The problem? He used to get this fix at McDonald's. UGH. I had to re-educate the boy, post-haste. The following list was basically what I threw at him, just before I started dragging him by the ear to get some real fast food (seriously, if you're going to indulge, why would you indulge in McDonald's of all things? The stuff's terrible. Are their french fries even organic anymore? Morgan Spurlock left his fries out for two and a half months and the stuff didn't even show a single speck of mold. There's something seriously wrong with food that refuses to decompose - if even mold, nature's eaters of the dead, won't touch your food, why in the HELL are YOU touching it, idiot? I mean, just look at this! http://youtu.be/4wmac-INoXg

*ahem* Sorry, that paragraph kinda ran away from me there.

So, with that out of my system, here are my favorite hamburger spots in the city.

I've already done a review on this place (see http://mouthwateringmontreal.blogspot.ca/2013/07/stub-review-lanecdote-excellent.html ), but this definitely bears mentioning:  EAT THEIR HAMBURGERS AND DO IT NOW. Especially, their venison burger. This is a tiny diner with fantastic burgers and fries cooked in peanut oil. Their burgers are nice and thick and served in nice, chewy buns. They do have other food, but I can't comment on those items because I can never resist their burgers. So, uh, go. Now. Don't walk. Run!

Burger de Ville - Plateau Mont-Royal

This restaurant is a nice, big, well-lit place that has the best quality beef in burgers out of any place I've been to in Montreal. Apparently, the secret to this success is that they grind their own meat. That, my friends, is AWESOME. The patties are great, you get your own choice of toppings, and the fries are flavorful and plenty. You always walk away pretty damn satisfied, lemme tell ya.

Café Local - Outremont

While not strictly a burger place (you'll see when I put up my full review of this place), it does have good burgers. Nothing fancy, nothing ambitious - just good, solid, burgers. Plus, their fireplace makes for great date-ish atmosphere in the winter (NOT DURING THE SUMMER).

Like Burger de Ville, this is a place that lets the customer customize their burgers like crazy. I've honestly lost track of the number and variety of toppings available to be had on their excellent patties. Standouts for toppings include guacamole, truffle oil, and foie gras (because, you know, a burger can NEVER be rich enough!). Their yam fries are also spectacular. Just one word of warning - service can be a bit slow at lunch, but otherwise it's really nice and friendly and great!

Mister Steer - Downtown Montreal

This place has been around since the 1950s and its decor shows. A full-on diner, Mister Steer also sells you its raw patties for home grill. It's made me the hit of many a summer barbecue, I must say! Their patties are interesting (in a good way) - while most places opt to flatten out their patties into a disc, Mister Steer opts to ball theirs up - it almost looks cylindrical. This place was once my favorite burger joint, though lately other places have drawn my attention. Still, a very, very, VERY solid burger bet!

Bières et Compagnie - Plateau Mont-Royal

Again, not strictly a burger joint but their burgers deliver, and then some. In particular, try the ostrich burger. That's right. You read me correctly:  OSTRICH. BURGER. Oh God, I just ate but now I'm crazy-ass hungry again (my mouth literally watered as I typed "ostrich burger"). To top it all off, there's over a hundred imported beers from which to choose an accompaniment to your food.

Oh, I'm feelin' faint...

Okay, time to wrap up and burger up!

  1. Mcdonalds is awesome. They have the best fries. Perfect light crispy vehicle for salt.
